Police in Enugu apprehend 13 people after crushing a robbery and cult gang

 

Following a series of well-coordinated operations throughout the state and abroad, the Enugu Police Command has apprehended 13 people connected to

cult-related activities, illegal firearm ownership, and armed robbery.

Guns, stolen cars, and other incriminating things were recovered as a result of the arrests, which were made by the Command's Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad and other agents.


One of the operations occurred on July 30, 2025, at approximately 3:40 a.m. in Oyofo-Oghe, Ezeagu LGA, where police arrested three additional men: Ebuka Odinko (35), Chiemerie Amano (25), and Onyebuchi Onyekwere (24), based on the confession of a suspect who was already in custody, 35-year-old Ekene Akpata, also known as Odumodu.
According to the police, all four were suspected of belonging to the Viking Confraternity and were connected to several instances of armed robbery.

In another significant operation, between July 23 and 28, agents in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, carried out a tactical raid based on information provided by two detained suspects, Okechukwu Ogbonna (65), and Ezeonuji Charles (52). A red Toyota Camry XLE (YEN 221 AG) and an ash Kia Soul (PHC 845 AE) were found as suspected stolen automobiles, and Udofia Richard (43), and Richard Arinzechukwu Nwaomu (32), were arrested as a result of the operation.

In Umuasi Ngwo, Udi LGA, three suspects were also taken into custody on July 21: Onuigbo Kingsley (49), Arinze Udeh (30), also known as Anonymous, and Stephen Chidiebere (42), also known as Shaggy. They were arrested after Ikemefuna Ani (31), also known as Majority, was apprehended earlier. According to investigations, the Black Axe Confraternity is connected to all four. During the operation, a double-barrel shotgun that had been trimmed to size was found.

In a separate incident on July 15, Ifeanyi Ede (30) was arrested by Ogui Division officers working with Neighbourhood Watch after he and an accomplice robbed a taxi driver of ₦30,000, a ₦17,000 mobile phone, car keys, and an ATM card using a fake pistol that turned out to be a Spark-L electronic gas lighter. While his accomplice escaped, Ede was taken into custody with the stolen phone.

Ndukwe revealed that while investigations proceeded and efforts were being made to find the remaining accomplices, all suspects would stay in detention.

He went on to say that after investigations were finished, all cases would be charged in court.

CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, the Commissioner of Police, commended the officers for their dedication and efficiency and urged them to keep up the good work. He restated the Command's determination to protect locals and drive out criminal groups.
