After the 27-year-old was accused of rape in 2023, the Nanterre prosecutor's office launched an investigation. Hakimi's case was put to trial, the prosecutor stated on Tuesday.

The lawsuit claimed that after meeting Hakimi on Instagram in January 2023, she took the player's arranged taxi to his house. She said the player raped her after kissing her and touching her without her permission. She claimed to have pushed him away and texted a friend, who then arrived to get her.

Rachel-Flore Pardo, the plaintiff's attorney, stated that her client was relieved to learn that the matter will go to trial. Although the court's handling of the case was excellent, she noted that overall, it demonstrated that "there are still areas where the #MeToo movement has not yet breached the sound barrier, chiefly in men's football."

"A trial has been ordered on the basis of an accusation that rests solely on the word of a woman who obstructed all investigations, refused all medical examinations and DNA tests, refused to allow her mobile phone to be examined, and refused to give the name of a key witness," said Fanny Colin, Hakimi's attorney, in a statement.
