Osun Assembly approves a second reading of the N705 billion budget

During its plenary session in Osogbo on Monday, the Osun State House of Assembly approved the

N705 billion 2026 Draft Appropriations Bill for second reading.

Following the presentation of the proposed budget's policy thrust by House Majority Leader Adewumi Babajide, the bill advanced.


Adewumi clarified that the larger budget was meant to fund important state initiatives like infrastructure development.

He stated, "The budget expansion is to support ongoing infrastructure development and essential projects across Osun State."


The appropriations package, according to lawmakers who participated in the discussion, is intended to boost infrastructure and economic growth. In order to facilitate seamless government operations in the upcoming fiscal year, they advocated its swift passage.

Adewale Egbedun, the Assembly's Speaker, agreed with the opinions of the members. "The House will give this bill the attention it deserves in line with our rules," he added, guaranteeing that the bill will receive the proper parliamentary consideration.

Egbedun announced that the bill would be referred to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriations for a thorough review, citing Order 95, subsection 5(b) of the House Standing Orders. He gave the committee instructions to create a schedule for the budget defense sessions, which are anticipated to feature appearances from government ministries, departments, and agencies.

He declared, "All MDAs must be ready to defend their allocations before the committee."
