Marci Collier Overstreet takes over as president of the Atlanta City Council

Marci Collier Overstreet will take over as the next president of the Atlanta City Council with Mayor Andre Dickens' support.

As of Wednesday morning, Overstreet had a 54 percent (48,700) advantage over nonprofit leader Rohit Malhorta, who had a 45 percent (40,904) advantage. These figures are based on reports from all 180 precincts.

Doug Shipman decided not to seek reelection in 2025, and Overstreet and Malhorta were vying to replace him.

Currently serving as a member of the city council, Overstreet represents Cascade and Greenbriar in southwest Atlanta's district 11.

The Center for Civic Innovation was founded by Malhotra.

The president of Atlanta's city council is elected to a four-year term as an at-large (citywide) official. The office's duties include managing city council meetings, selecting committee chairmen, breaking ties in votes, and acting as mayor in the event that the current mayor is removed until a new one is chosen.

Michael Julian Bond won Post 1 at-large, Kelsea Bond won District 2, Byron Amos won District 3, Jason Dozier won District 4, Dustin Hillis won District 9, and Antonio Lewis won District 12.


Districts 7 and 11 seem to be going to a runoff.
Due to family health issues, Shipman chose not to seek reelection.
