Akintunde Sawyerr, Managing Director of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund), has counseled parents to
urge their kids to use student loans to further their education. Sawyerr provided the advice during a sensitization session in Ekiti State, according to a statement issued by Omojola Seun-Ojerinde on behalf of the Fund.
According to Sawyerr, President Bola Tinubu was eager to relieve parents of the responsibility for paying for higher education.
He described the student loan program as "an opportunity for Nigerian students to further their education to the tertiary level."
Speaking at the Palace of the Oore of Otun Ekiti and the Paramount Ruler of Moba land, Oba Adekunle Adeagbo, the CEO of NELFund advised parents to encourage their children enrolled in public universities to take advantage of the Federal Government's student loan program.
"Nigerians have an insatiable curiosity and want to learn. We are highly inquisitive individuals.
We have a lot of questions, and the student loan policy has made it possible for many to pursue higher education.
The effect has been enormous. We have received 12,000 student loan applications in the past day. He remarked, "You can imagine the impact has been enormous."
