According to recent sources, Chief Willie Obiano, the former governor of Anambra State, is still alive, despite previous allegations that he

had passed away.

According to an internet post, his family acknowledged his death following a protracted struggle with serious heart failure and complications related to bladder cancer.

Conflicting Health Claims for Obiano

According to the previous account, his family said that his health had deteriorated for months prior to an unexpected breakdown.

A senior family member was also quoted as saying, "His health had been declining in the past months, but the final collapse came suddenly." We are heartbroken.

Aide Dispels Death Rumor

But a recent update from one of his assistants has refuted the rumor.

The former governor is still alive and well, according to the aide.

He went on to say that Chief Willie Obiano is based in the United States and is not in London as stated.

EFCC Case in Progress Prior to His Death

Obiano is scheduled to go on trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja on November 25 prior to the reported death.

He is on trial in a case brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission alleging N4 billion in money laundering.

The nine-count case was recently transferred to Justice Mohammed Umar.

From March 2014 until March 2022, Obiano governed Anambra State.

Testimony of Witnesses in a Prior Court Case

The former governor is charged with mismanaging more than N4 billion that belonged to the state.

The EFCC called two witnesses before Justice Ekwo on October 7, 2024.

Mr. Ugochukwu Otubelu, a former employee of a commercial bank, testified about how he managed the security vote account while Obiano was in charge.

Otubelu ran a private company after working for the bank from November 2008 until March 2023.

Information Regarding the Security Vote Account

Otubelu claims that Willy Nwokoye, the former principal secretary, and Theophilus Nweze, the accountant, signed the security vote account.

He claimed that while handling their transactions, he interacted with both men on a regular or weekly basis.
