Atiku comes out after confronting Wike about giving Naval officer Yarima a brand-new SUV
Following Navy Lieutenant A.M. Yarima's widely reported altercation with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, former Nigerian Vice
President Atiku Abubakar has denied social media rumors that he gave the officer a brand-new SUV.
After a post appeared in a Facebook group named “(PTB) Plateau The Beautiful,” the rumor gathered traction.
According to the user, "ATIKU REWARDS NAVY LIEUTENANT YERIMA WITH A BRAND NEW 2024 PRADO JEEP."
Online Reactions to the Allegation Are Diverse
The author of the long Facebook post commended the officer's behavior during the interaction with the minister.
Wike's leadership style was criticized by the user, who called him a "bully" and described the purported gift as a symbolic call to action for young police to act bravely and professionally.
The user claimed that the purported Atiku reward symbolized hope for a "new Nigeria" where honesty is prized over political clout.
The post swiftly went viral on a number of platforms, sparking a lot of conjecture.
Atiku Declares the Story to Be False
Paul Ibe, Atiku's spokesperson, has refuted the reports, though.
In response to the rumors that were making the rounds, he declared that the tale was wholly false and was to be disregarded.
"His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, Vice President of Nigeria (1999-2007), did not gift Lt. Ahmed Yerima — or any other individual — a brand-new Toyota SUV, contrary to the false reports currently circulating on social media," he wrote.
"The public should completely ignore the story as it is wholly fabricated."
As Nigerians continue to discuss the viral interaction between the minister and the naval commander, Ibe's comment has since served to clarify the matter.
